Besides being more aesthetically pleasing, does the Citaro/MAN wing mirrors offer other benefits? Sorry, I'm ignorant here

Yes,More rugged than the cheapo type but of course good thing doesn’t come cheap,Electronic control type is expensive even for B9TL ones,Only the B1/B2 B9TL is manual

currently there's an SMRT MAN A22 bus on trail test using cctv camera as wing mirror. If successful, all future buses would not have anymore wing mirrors.

Somehow I think the camera have to have a wide field of view to actually able to replace the real mirrors. Not sure whether that is already the case now (regarding wide field of view) on the trial bus.

Also, I think it's best to have some form of backup, so if the "mirror" faces technical issues, at least the bus won't need to be declared down

Yes. But does autonomous buses need mirrors when they are driving on its' own?

But when in manual mode the mirrors are still important.

Thats right. I think autonomous buses may still have manual override function at least for the first few years of service.
