ROGUE BUS ENTHUSIASTS ON SG5925L

Post by SG1201T Citaro »

As the day came to its close, I had hoped for a B8L on 851e, but a MAN A95 Euro VI was used instead. Running out of time, I decided to board it(I have not experienced the A95 Euro 6 before, so why not ) and thus went up to the upper deck, expecting to be able to cover this bus' features in my article.

HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT TO BE

The moment I went up to the upper deck, I claimed my favourite seat, the frontmost on the right, and expected to be able to plug my phone into the USB ports to let it charge. After the documenting of 167, it was running low, you see. However, I was shocked to find out the USB port HAD BEEN TOTALLY RIPPED OFF. No, not dropped off in an accident. The damage clearly showed that it was a deliberate act of vandalism. Thats when my eyes strayed to the left, and I stumbled upon something even worse.

THE LEFT SIDE USB PORT HAD BEEN RIPPED OFF AS WELL.

2 cases of vandalism on a single bus? How was it even possible? The only explanation was that this was a deliberate act by rogue bus enthusiats. I had heard of their behaviour online, but this was the first time I actually saw with my own eyes the results of their actions. It saddens me to see how people like them, with their behavior, give us a black name by virtue of their actions.

Really, I am at a loss for words now.

For comparison this is what a normal one would look like

If it is indeed vandalism, it is unacceptable. Enjoying oneself's desire at the expense of someone else's pain (in this case, the investigations, reinstalling etc.).

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." - Matthew 7:12 (KJV)

Actually there were 3 USB ports that were damaged, I found one on the left side on the upper deck which had its covers ripped off.

Coincidentially, I saw the same type of damages too on a MAN A95 Batch 3 on 172, SG5801K

The third USB port that is damaged. Notice how the cover has been ripped off? This is definitely not a case of accidental snagging and ripping, but a purposeful, deceitful act

Sometimes I think the people damaging these items aren't necessary rogue bus enthusiasts. They might just be people who likes to damage public property, thinking no one will see them. The recent example of the bikes are a good example. Probably the flimsy plastic is too tempting for them, hence they had to pull the plastic cover out. They definitely need help.

Yup. Personally I am also hoping it was a random act of vandalism that happened to be targeted at this bus rather than a premeditated one by rogue members of our community. I wont point the fingers at anyone yet, but if it is really them then the only thing I can say is shame on them. Having reported this incident to SBS Transit upon arrival at Yishun, I guess the only thing we can do for now is to see how the investigation goes.

Noticed this on SG5806Y- MAN A95 Batch 3 on 172. The damage on SG5801K is similar

Of course, I dont know for sure if it was indeed the result of a deliberate act by a rogue or vandal or nothing more than an accidental ripping-seems like the USB covers are very prone to being ripped off.

That being said, the only bus which does not come with covers for the USB port is the MAN Lion's City DD L 3 Door Concept Bus - SG5999Z

I think SG5999Z will be the only bus without missing USB covers (as it doesn't even have any). Some people just have the tendency to damage such things, especially so when the camera can't capture their acts (blocked by seats). There are some ways to avoid this problem, but most of then will cost way too much to justify.
